FALLOW
It is a piece of land that has been plowed and raked, but left unplanted so that it can regain its fertility.
The law of Moses (Ex. 23:11) commanded that the Israelite leave his land fallow one year out of every seven, thus teaching that the land truly belonged to God.
This was done in the so-called sabbatical year (Hos. 10:12). However, in the later years of the Old Testament this practice was not very common (see Lev. 26:33).
