GOAT
This well-known animal, considered clean in Levitical ceremonial, had a great presence in sacrifices. Goats were an important part of the patriarchs’ heritage.
In the prophecy given to Daniel regarding the empires, that of Greece is compared to a “goat,” with a notable horn between its eyes (Dan. 8:5, 8, 21). The goats, in the judgment of the living nations, represent the lost, in contrast to the sheep (Mt. 25:32, 33).
Mountain goats were larger animals, and lived wild on the mountains (1 Sam. 24:2; Jb. 39:1; Ps. 104:18).
