PECTORAL

PECTORAL

It was a garment worn by the high priest, made of the same material as the ephod. It had to be attached to the ephod by means of the respective rings and a blue cord, so that it was above the belt of the ephod (Ex. 28:28).

On it there were to be twelve precious stones arranged in four rows, each one bearing the name of a tribe. It had to be made square and double, one span on each side.

On several occasions it is called the “breastplate of judgment” (Ex. 28:25-21). “And Aaron will always bear the judgment of the children of Israel on his heart before the Lord” (Ex. 28:30).

This is a type of Christ who upholds his people before God according to the holy judgments of God, which his own lights and perfections expressed.

He carries all his people on the shoulders of his strength (Ex. 28:9-12) and on his heart of love (Ex. 28:29), having been accepted by God (cf. Lev. .8:8).
