In the Mosaic classification it refers to every type of creeping animal (Gen. 1:24, 25) on the ground, or amphibian (Gen. 6:7; Ps. 104:25), whether it crawls directly on its belly, or that it propels itself with four legs or more (Lev. 11:41, 42). They are generally considered impure animals.
