TAHPANHES

TAHPANHES

Egyptian city (Ez. 30:18). After the murder of Gedaliah, the Jews took refuge there to escape reprisals from the Babylonians.

The prophet Jeremiah, brought there against his will, prophesied that the king of Babylon would set his throne in that city and plague the land of Egypt (Jer. 43:7-9; 44:1; 46:14). It has been identified with Tell Defenneh, east of the Nile Delta, 30º 52′ N, 32º 7′ E, the Daphne of the Greeks.
