EMBARRASSMENT

EMBARRASSMENT

A term that appears very frequently in the Scriptures together with sin and guilt. It enters the human race as a consequence of the fall.

Before her, Adam and Eve were not ashamed of his nakedness. Shame is only manifested by human beings who have fallen into sin (cf. Gen. 2:25; 3:10, 11).

Shame arises with defeat (Is. 30:3), with disgrace (Ps. 69:7; Is. 54:4; Mi. 2:6); with nakedness (Is. 47:3; Mi. 1:11) and many other humiliating evils.

The shame of nakedness before God correlates with the shame of the sinner before God for his moral state, which needs to be covered with a covering of righteousness.

However, sinners who try to clothe themselves with self-righteousness, which before God is an abomination (cf. Is. 64:6; cf. Mt. 22:11-14), are characterized as follows in the Scriptures: “enemies of the cross.” of Christ; …whose glory is his shame” (Phil. 3:18-19).

The Lord offers the rich garments of His righteousness to all who come to Him for salvation: “Therefore I advise you to buy from me… white garments to clothe yourself, so that the shame of your nakedness will not be revealed.” » (Rev. 3:18).
