MONEY CHANGERS

They were people who changed the money of those who came far from Jerusalem, so that they could pay the temple tax, half a shekel, in exchange for the coins they brought (Greek drachmas, Roman denarii, etc.).

What the Lord told them when expelling them from the temple implies that they were abusing the changes (Mt. 21:12; Mark 11:15).
