The One Year Uncommon Life Daily Challenge

Author: Tony Dungy and Nathan Whitaker Publishing House: Tyndale 47

The One Year Uncommon Life Daily Challenge
by Tony Dungy and Nathan Whitaker

For the last fourteen years, Tony has been in a Bible study with a number of other coaches. Reading The One Year Bible each year, they have not only engaged in a study of God’s Word, but have engaged in the building of a community.

As coaches from their original group in Tampa Bay have changed teams or left the National Football League altogether during that time span, Tony has found that the One Year format keeps them connected as a community.

On any given day, they all know what the others are reading. Essentially, everyone is on the same page.

This knowledge sparks e-mails or voice mails or direct conversations—“What did you think about those verses from Ezekiel? I needed to hear that today. It really spoke to me because . . .”

With this One Year Uncommon Life Daily Challenge, our hope is that the format will create the same sense of community for you, which is why we have indicated dates for the readings, but have not tied them to any particular year.

The book focuses on seven themes, with each theme repeating every seven days. Therefore, every week you will read one devotion from each of the themes:
- Core
- Family
- Friends
- Potential
- Mission
- Influence
- Faith

January 1 starts with Core. Every seventh day that follows ( January 8, 15, 22, 29, and so on) will be an insight on Core. Each devotion stands on its own, so that no matter what date you begin, whether it’s January 1 or August 27, you can jump right in.

No matter what year you begin, you will always be in community with others who are reading the devotional. Each devotion includes Scripture and an Uncommon Key—an application or action to implement based on what you’ve just read. This isn’t just a “read-it-andyou’re-done” type of devotional.

The goal is to not only engage your mind, but to also challenge your heart. That, too, is worth sharing with the community that you may form with others.

If you miss a day, keep going. Don’t try to catch up, and don’t feel guilty. Yesterday is gone—spend time with God today. Our prayer is that every day you will be blessed by what you read and challenged to do more for God’s Kingdom.

Do yourself a favor right now as you enter this new year and refuse to remain angry or bitter.

DAILY DEVOTIONAL

God Is Your Vindicator

Joyce Meyer
Do yourself a favor right now as you enter this new year and refuse to remain angry or bitter. God has good things planned for us, and we don’t want to miss them by refusing to let go of things in the past.
The promise of a new beginning stirs hope in our souls.

DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Beginning

Charles Stanley
If you wish to make this your very best year yet, allow God to begin it—every day of it—and trust Him to show you what He wants to accomplish in and through you.
We need to write our vision down in clear, compelling language so that it grips our hearts.

DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Write It Down!

Zig Ziglar
Some of us wander from one thing to another our whole lives. An out-of-focus purpose can’t inspire us, but a crystal-clear lens on God’s purpose for us rivets our attention and gives us energy to keep going until we reach our goals.
Living in the past, whether failed or successful, takes our lives out of focus.

DAILY DEVOTIONAL

One Thing

Zig Ziglar
We’ve enjoyed stunning success, but instead of using our gains as a foundation for future growth, we keep reliving those memories. Living in the past, whether failed or successful, takes our lives out of focus. Paul says, “Forget the past and move on.”
Those who were blessed gave to those who were in need of a blessing.

DAILY DEVOTIONAL

The Blessing Of Giving

John Eckhardt
If you want to receive the blessing of God, you have to be ready to give. You cannot expect to live a blessed life if all you do is receive, receive, receive. You will end up like the Dead Sea—becoming too salty and too toxic to support any kind of life.
