Prayer to Cultivate Self-Control and Overcome Anger | Daily Prayer
"Be angry, and yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and do not give the devil an opportunity." — Ephesians 4:26-27 (NASB)
Daily Exhortation
Yes, you can be angry when someone offends you. However, you should not sin. What does this mean? It means you should not for example, respond to a provocation with insults or with physical violence or some other method that would amount to sin.
This is not ordinarily easy and this is one of the reasons why God sent us His Holy Spirit. One of the fruits of the Spirit is self-control. If you fellowship regularly with the Holy Spirit and then you get provoked, this self-control will substitute for actions of sin and manifest itself instead in your character and life.
If you go ahead and sin, you will give the devil the legal ground to deal with you. What would it be?
Today's Prayers
1. Holy Spirit of God, this morning, I ask You to take total control of my life, in the name of Jesus.
2. I know that it is not possible to go through everyday of my life without provocation. Therefore, I am asking in advance that self-control which is present in You should be integrated into my character, in the name of Jesus.
3. According to the word of the Lord, if I am provoked today, in the place of reactions of sin, let self-control manifest itself in my life, in the name of Jesus.
4. Spirit of God, let Your presence in my life ease out any anger resulting from any provocation I might experience today so that it does not tarry or linger in my life unnecessarily, in the name of Jesus
5. I decree and declare that spiritual carelessness will not cause me to open the door of my life to the devil today, in the name of Jesus.
6. I decree and declare that by the presence of the Holy Spirit in me, I am a master of my emotions, in the name of Jesus.
7. Thank You heavenly Father, in Jesus' mighty name, amen.
If you have the need and the time, please feel free to add more prayers at this point.
Blessing: May your emotions be subject to you by the power of the Holy Spirit who lives in you, in the name of Jesus.
