Free to Live God’s Way

Charles Stanley

People who have committed certain crimes, especially the more violent ones, have a higher rate of recidivism than others. The sad fact is that some prisoners are never able to escape their pattern of criminal behavior.

Almighty God, set me free to live Your way. Remove the restrictions of sin. Toss out the old. Make room for the new.

Almighty God, set me free to live Your way. Remove the restrictions of sin. Toss out the old. Make room for the new.

Free to Live God’s Way | Devotional

Scripture Reading: Galatians 5:1–15
key Verse: Galatians 5:1

Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.

When approving an inmate for parole, prison officials are supposed to consider the likelihood of recidivism, or repetition of the offense.

People who have committed certain crimes, especially the more violent ones, have a higher rate of recidivism than others. The sad fact is that some prisoners are never able to escape their pattern of criminal behavior.

Why? Until their thinking changes, the resulting actions stay the same, no matter how good rehabilitation efforts might be. The same is true for a sinful habit in your life. Before you can shake off its negative influence, you must alter your mind-set.

Romans 12:2 explains the bondage-breaking process: “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect”(NASB).

As you read God’s Word and study His principles carefully, they gradually become a natural part of your thought process. When the new comes in, the old is tossed out.

The Lord is then able to work His truth into your innermost being, establishing new, Christlike habits.

You don’t have to be confined by the restrictions of an old sin problem. Whether you are in a jail that is real or one of your own making, Jesus wants to set you free to live in His ways.

Almighty God, set me free to live Your way. Remove the restrictions of sin. Toss out the old. Make room for the new.

The place where god puts you will not be perfect—even eden was exposed to the possibility of evil. But there is no better place to be than where god has set you down.

A Place Called Home

Colin S. Smith and Tim Augustyn
The book of genesis is part of the revelation god gave to moses at mount Sinai, so when it says eden was “in the east,” we are talking about a location somewhere east of Sinai.
We were created to come close to a Father who has made himself vulnerable to the longings of his people and to absorb his desires as he cares for and works through ours.

God’s Heart and Ours

Chris Tiegreen
One of the primary ways God accomplishes his purposes on earth is through the prayers of his people. And one of our primary motivations for prayer is the desires in our hearts.
God’s Word gives us the resilience of a tree with a source of living water that will never dry up.

The Secret of Strength and Happiness

Timothy Keller
Psalm 1 is the gateway to the rest of the psalms. The “law” is all Scripture, to “meditate” is to think out its implications for all life, and to “delight” in it means not merely to comply but to love what God commands.
The new heavens and new earth are perfect because everyone and everything is glorifying God fully and therefore enjoying him forever.

A Glimpse into the Future of Eternal Praise

Timothy Keller
Every possible experience, if prayed to the God who is really there, is destined to end in praise. Confession leads to the joy of forgiveness. Laments lead to a deeper resting in him for our happiness. If we could praise God perfectly, we would love him completely and then our joy would be full.
Gospel joy, knowing how honored and loved we are in Christ (verse 5), makes us ready for this mission.

Poetry of Praise and Redemptive Mission

Timothy Keller
The praise of the redeemed. His people praise him because he has made them his people and because he honors and delights in them —though they don’t deserve it. Gospel joy, knowing how honored and loved we are in Christ, makes us ready for this mission.
