The Image of God

Colin S. Smith and Tim Augustyn

It is almost as if god has a conversation with himself: “let’s do it! let’s make them in our image, in our likeness.” an image is a reflection, so god is telling us that he made us, male and female (see genesis 1:27), to reflect something of his own nature and glory.

He sustains you one breath at a time. You are absolutely dependent upon god.

He sustains you one breath at a time. You are absolutely dependent upon god.

The Image of God Devotional

Then God said,“Let us make human beings in our image.” genesis 1:26

After fIve Days of creation, the crowning moment has come: “let us make human beings . . .”

It is almost as if god has a conversation with himself: “let’s do it! let’s make them in our image, in our likeness.” an image is a reflection, so god is telling us that he made us, male and female (see genesis 1:27), to reflect something of his own nature and glory.

This image of god is what distinguishes people from animals. The animals were made by god, but they were not made to be like god. That is why no man or woman should ever be treated like an animal or behave like an animal.

at the center of the Bible story, we find god taking on the form of a human. Why did he take the form of a man and not an animal?

Because man was made in the image of god. People who believe that they are simply developed animals have missed the most fundamental thing god says about them.

god made the first man from the dust of the ground, so we should not be surprised that animals have a biological makeup similar to ours.

But there is more to man than biology: “The lord god formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person” (genesis 2:7).

god formed a corpse, complete with a skeletal frame, and breathed his own breath into it. It became a living being. god is always doing what he did that day, giving “everyone life and breath” (acts 17:25, niv).

He sustains you one breath at a time. You are absolutely dependent upon god.

If you can grasp that you are made in god’s image and that you are dependent on him, you will discover great dignity, and at the same time, profound humility.

Colin S. Smith

Colin Smith was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. He came to personal faith in Christ at the age of six, and sensed God's call to pastoral ministry early in life. He has published several books and is the teacher of the popular evangelistic video series, 10 Keys for Unlocking the Bible Story.

So long as there is a human being who does not know Jesus Christ, I am his debtor to serve him until he does.

The Determination To Serve

Oswald Chambers
The mainspring of Paul 's service is not love for men, but love for Jesus Christ. Paul's realization of how Jesus Christ had dealt with him is the secret of his determination to serve others.
No matter what sin we have committed, no matter how terrible it may be, God loves us.- Billy Graham

What God’s Love Can’t Do

Billy Graham
God cannot forgive the unrepentant sinner. The human race is called on throughout the Bible to repent of sin and return to God. This love of God can be entirely rejected. God will not force Himself upon any man against his will.
“To know the will of God is the greatest knowledge! To do the will of God is the greatest achievement.”—George W. Truett

Pure and Powerful

Zig Ziglar
Too often, we value all received messages equally. God’s Word, though, is more precious and valuable than any other message sent to us. The psalmist describes God’s message as “pure words” that are like silver processed “seven times” in the furnace.
“The only ultimate disaster that can befall us is to feel ourselves at home on this earth.”— Malcolm Muggeridge

The Secret of Contentment

Zig Ziglar
Somewhere along the way, Paul learned the secret of contentment. He realized that possessions, fame, beauty, and other earthly things can be pleasant for a while, but they can never produce genuine contentment. That comes from the inside.
Here is the truth: Jesus Christ is Lord of life and Lord of all. - Jack Graham

DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Jesus is the Lord of Life

Jack Graham
Jesus is the Lord of Life, and that's the topic, that's the theme of the Gospel of John, and certainly John chapter 10 which is one of the well-known passages in all of the Bible. Jesus had enemies. You know that, right? While He was loved and beloved by multitudes, many rejected Him.
