The first two children of Adam and Eve—and one murdered the other. Genesis 4 relates that Cain was born first. He became a farmer, while his younger brother, Abel, was a shepherd.
For some reason God accepted Abel’s offering of sheep but not Cain’s offer of produce. Can was so angry that he killed Abel in a field. God said that Abel’s blood “cries out to Me from the ground” (v. 10).
He placed a curse on Cain, making him a fugitive on the earth. Verse 16 says, “Then Cain went out from the presence of the LORD and dwelt in the land of Nod on the east of Eden.” Happily for Adam and Eve, they had another son, Seth.
