SCALES
In ancient times they were also used to weigh money (Gen. 23:16; cp. Jer. 32:10). Job asked to be weighed in the scales of “justice” (Jb. 31:6; cp. Lev. 19:36; Ez. 45:10), because the people tried to falsify the scales, as well as the weights, which was an abomination. before God (Prov. 11:1; 16:11; Hos. 12:7; Am. 8:5).
Another Hebrew word, “ganeh,” is used in Isaiah (Is. 46:6), which means a reed, rod, or beam, and which may refer to the beam of the scales. In Rev. 6:5 the rider on the white horse had a pair of scales with which to weigh the food, evidencing the great scarcity and famine that will fall as God’s judgment in the future.
