SALOME
(feminine form of Solomon).
(a) Wife of Zebedee and mother of the apostles James and John (Mt. 27:56; cf. Mr. 15:40; 16:1).
One of the women who attended the crucifixion from afar (Mt. 27:56) and who, on the morning of the day of the resurrection, brought aromatic spices to the tomb of Jesus (Mark 16:1).
(b) Daughter of Herodias and Herod Philip; She danced before Herod the Tetrarch and, having promised her with an oath that she would give him whatever she wanted, at the instigation of her mother Herodias she asked for the head of John the Baptist (Mt. 14: 3-11; Mr. 6 : 17-28.
