ZANOA
(a) City of the plain of Judah (Josh. 15:34). Some Jews returned from captivity took up residence there (Neh. 11:30), undoubtedly the same ones who rebuilt the Valley Gate in Jerusalem (Neh. 3:13). Identification: Khirbet Zanû or Zanuh, 5 km southeast-south of Betsemes.
(b) Location of the hill country of Judah (Josh. 15:56 and, probably, 1 Chron. 4:18). Plausible identification: about 2 km northwest of Yatta, a place called Khirbet Beit-‘Amra.
