ACHOR – Valley of Achor
Achor means “anguish,” and it is the place where Achan, with all his followers, was stoned for having brought the curse on Israel by taking the anathema of Jericho for himself (Joshua 7). The valley was between Jericho and Ai, on the border of the tribe of Judah.
Identified with Wadi Kelt, 31º 50′ N, 35º 24′ E. It will be a door of hope for Israel (Hos. 2:15) in the future, when, in confession and repentance, putting away their sin from among them, they remember that it was there where God’s judgment began to fall on them, followed by blessing: this is how the tribulation of the last days will end in blessing (65:10).
