(a) One of the gods of Sepharvaim, imported by the Assyrian settlers from Samaria; the other is Anamelech. The books of Kings (2 Kings 17:31) narrate that they burned their children as a sacrifice to this deity and also to another one they called Anamelech.
(b) Middle name of one of the sons of Sennacherib, king of Assyria. The secular chronicles speak of the murder of his father, but did not mention his name as one of the murderers, whom the Bible cites together with that of his brother Zarezer (2 Kings 19:37; Is. 37: 38). This happened while Sennacherib was worshiping his god in the temple of Nisroch.
