AHIMELECH
“brother of the king.” (a) Priest at the time the ark was in Nob. He welcomed David as he fled from Saul, and gave him the shewbread and the sword of Goliath.
When Saul was informed of this by Doeg the Edomite, Ahimelech and the other priests were killed, only Abiathar escaping (1 Sam. 21:1-8; 22:9-20; Ps. 52, “title”).
(b) Son of Abiathar (2 Sam. 8:17), called Abimelech in another passage (1 Chron. 18:16). (See ABIATAR)
(c) A Hittite, David’s companion when he was persecuted by Saul (1 Sam. 26:6).
