It is likely that he does not refer to the fossilized resin now called “amber,” which is highly electrifiable, as its Greek and Latin names (“electrum”) imply, but to a metallic alloy, such as amber. described by the ancients as composed of four parts of gold and one of silver.
The Hebrew word is related to “fire” and refers merely to its color and brightness (Ez. 1:4, 27; 8:2).
