ARIEL
(a) A Moabite (2 Sam. 23:20) (b) Hebrew name applied to Jerusalem “the city where David dwelt” (Is. 29:1, 2, 7). The same word occurs three times in Ez. 43:15, 16.
(c) A Jewish leader who was with Ezra at the Ahava River and whom the restorer of Jerusalem sent to seek collaborators for the work undertaken. The word Ariel is generally interpreted as “lion of God” or “home of God.”
