ASIARCA
«Chiefs of Asia» (gr.).
They were positions elected annually by the cities in the Roman province of Asia. They were in charge of public games and religious celebrations (Acts 19:31).
There were similar ones in the other provinces, such as Syrianarchs for Syria, etc. Some of the Asiaarchs were friends of Paul, and they begged him not to expose himself to danger in the theater: crowds could not always be controlled.
