BIRTHDAY

BIRTHDAY

The birth of a child, especially a male child, was a happy event, often celebrated (Jer. 20:15; Ant. 12:4, 7).
The Egyptians and Persians commemorated the anniversary of the birth (Gen. 40:20; Herodotus 1:133).

Herod the tetrarch celebrated the anniversary of his birth, or that of his coming to power; There is discussion about what anniversary it was (Mt. 14:6).

There is, however, no evidence that the Hebrews celebrated birthdays.
