BITTER WATERS

BITTER WATERS

When a man suspected that his wife was unfaithful, the wife was brought before the priest, in a solemn ritual, she had to drink the bitter waters.

They were prepared in a clay vessel, where “holy water” and “dust from the floor of the tabernacle” were placed (type of the Holy Spirit applying death, as God’s judgment on sin, to the conscience through the word).

If she had been unfaithful to him, this drink would be a curse to her, suffering from dropsy under the hand of God. If not, she would be free (Num. 5: 11-31).
