Meaning of BREAKING OF THE BREAD

It is used in the sense of celebration of the Lord's Supper in Acts. 2:42, 46, in memory of the Lord, as He established it before his departure (cf. Mt. 26:26; Mark 14:22; Luke 22:19; 1 Cor. 11:24) .

It is used in the sense of celebration of the Lord's Supper in Acts. 2:42, 46, in memory of the Lord, as He established it before his departure (cf. Mt. 26:26; Mark 14:22; Luke 22:19; 1 Cor. 11:24) .

From the passage of 1 Cor. 10:15-22 it is evident that the expression "table of the Lord," used in verse 21 contrasting it with the "table of demons," is synonymous with the "breaking of bread" (1 Cor. 10:15-22). . 10:16).

The wine is called "the cup of the Lord." The concept related to the Lord's table is the identification of the saints as a body with the death of Christ.

Hence it is stated: "You cannot partake of the table of the Lord, and of the table of demons." The cup is the communion of the blood of Christ, just as the bread is the communion of the body of Christ.

Every believer is committed to being faithful to this communion, which expresses the separation of the entire company of believers from that for which He died: from sin and the world, the very things with which the god of this world prepares his table. .

The "one bread" was an expression of the unity of the company of believers in Corinth, united in the communion of the death of Christ.

The expression "the Lord's Supper," found in 1 Cor. 11:20, is related to the remembrance of the Lord in the breaking of the bread and the sharing of the cup by the saints gathered in assembly. . This chapter 11 gives the positive character of the ordinance, just as chapter 10 gives rather the separation that is a consequence of it.

Thus, in 1 Cor. 11 appears the assembled assembly and the affection of the believers awakened by the memory of the love of the Lord in the presence of the memorials of that which constitutes the proof and expression of him, that is, his death.

It is the privilege of the Church to know God revealed as Father, led by the Lord Jesus Christ among them in his praises (cf. Ps. 22:22), and worshiping in the Spirit (John 4:22-24). In chapters 12-14 the organization, power and functions of the Church are given.

The clear claim of Scripture, and Mary’s own testimony, is that she had never been physically intimate with any man.

The Announcement to Mary

John Macarthur
When we first meet Mary in Luke’s gospel, it is on the occasion when an archangel appeared to her suddenly and without fanfare to disclose to her God’s wonderful plan.
The precious blood of the Lamb slain removes the guilt and purges away the defilement of our sins of ignorance and carelessness.

Sanctifying Joy and Cleansing Grace

Charles Spurgeon
Amid the cheerfulness of household gatherings, it is easy to slide into sinful amusements and forget our declared character as Christians. It should not be so, but it is, that our days of feasting are very seldom days of sanctified enjoyment.
In Christmas, the worlds of secular and spiritual come together.

The Transcendental Importance of Christmas

Philip Yancey
Unlike most people, I do not feel much Dickensian nostalgia at Christmastime. The holiday fell just a few days after my father died early in my childhood, and all my memories of the season are darkened by the shadow of that sadness.
The gospel is good news, and God will give them the peace they need to submit to Him.

The Message of Christmas

Charles Stanley
One of the messages that we learn from the Christmas story is that of peace. While God might appear overwhelming at times, He always wants to give us the assurance that with Him, peace reigns, even in the announcement of His Son’s birth.
Why is this analogy important to us today? It is because we are the sheep and Jesus is the Shepherd.

The Voice of the Shepherd

Charles Stanley
Have you ever seen a child who cannot find his mother in a crowd? Although she may be out of sight, the little tyke may still hear her voice. It is almost as though his inner radar scans the sounds around him, looking for that one familiar tone.
