CHOIR (Director of)
The Hebrew indication “la-menasseah”, which appears in about fifty Psalms (the 4th, for example) and in Hab. 3:19, is generally translated with the expression “director of the choir”, or also with “the principal musician” .
The books of Chronicles tell us that three families (those of Asaph, Heman and Jeduthun) were distributed into twenty-four groups that took care of the singing in the Temple and everything related to the solemnization of the cult (1 Chron. 16:4-43) .
The choir directors were the three mentioned.
The expression is also translated as “with musical accompaniment.” David was very interested in giving great importance to singing.
