CLEAN (Animals)

CLEAN (Animals)

Since ancient times, a distinction was made between clean and unclean animals (Gen. 7:2); The former were considered suitable for ritual sacrifice and feeding (Luke 11:15; Deut. 14). The meat of clean animals could be impure in certain cases (Lev. 17:10-16).

In Christianity this ritual distinction is abolished, since the shadows of the Law have given way to reality (Acts 10:9-16).

However, the prohibition remains in place for Christians to eat the meat of animals, regardless of their classification, which no longer applies to them, “if they have been sacrificed to idols” (Acts 15:20), to avoid associating with “the table of demons” (1 Cor. 10:21-11:1).

This order is intended to prevent others from stumbling along the path of faith, as specified in the previous Pauline passage.
