COLOSSAS
City on the River Lycus in Phrygia, Asia Minor (Col. 1:2).
It appears that Paul had not yet visited the city when he wrote his letter to the church there (cp. Col. 1:7; 2:1); but he may have done it later on his travels, or from Ephesus.
He hoped to visit them soon (Flm. 22), because Philemon and Onesimus lived there (Col. 4:9).
Colossae had been an important city, and saw its decline with the rise of Hierapolis and Laodicea.
