DAUGHTER
In the Hebrew Bible the word “bath” is used not only literally, but also as “son”, in translational meanings.
Sometimes it denotes descendant (Gen. 28:6), or native, or inhabitant of some place, as “daughters of Zion,” or “daughters of Jerusalem” (Is. 3:16).
Tire is called “daughter of Sidon,” that is, “colony” (Is. 23:12), and in Gen. 17:17 Sarah is called, in Hebrew, “the ninety-year-old daughter.”
In ancient times the young women of the richest families, and even the daughters of princesses, were accustomed to domestic services and taking care of the house.
