ENCHANTMENT
Charming, to “chabar”, “to unite together, to fascinate”.
It is associated with another term, “lachash,” “speak in a soft and gentle manner,” and is later applied to snake-charming (Ps. 58:5).
Similarly, man is deceived and lets down his guard from his aversion to interacting with evil spirits, until he comes under their influence.
In Isaiah 19:3, another term, “ittim,” is translated “evocator” in a similar sense, as that which gives a soft sound in the incantations of sorcerers.
