FIG

FIG

(Hebrew, “pag”; Greek, “syke”).
Fruit of the fig tree, it is (along with the olive and the grape) one of the three most important fruits of biblical Palestine.

The early figs or figs (in June; Mt. 24:32) and the late ones (August-October) are distinguished.

Figs are consumed fresh or dried, or made into fig bread (made from kneaded fresh figs).

Fig breads are also used as a remedy against ulcers (2 Kings 20:7).

A type of beer is obtained from the fermentation of fig bread in water.
