GABAA
(Heb. “gib ‘ãh”, mountain).
The Hebrew term denotes a low mountain, in contrast to “har,” which denotes a mountain or range.
Gibeah should not be confused with Geba.
(a) An unidentified city in the lands of Judah (Josh. 15:57). It is possible that it is the Gibeah mentioned in 2 Chron. 13:2.
(b) City of Benjamin (Josh. 18:28; 1 Sam. 13:2, 15), where Saul was from (1 Sam. 11:4; Isa. 10:29). Scene of a tragic event in the time of the Judges (Judges 19 et seq.), when “there was no king in Israel; each one did what seemed good to him” (Judg. 21:25).
It is identified with Teleil el-Fûl, a Tell or mound of ruins about 6 km north of Jerusalem on the road that leads to Shechem.
