HEN

HEN

In ancient Hebrew there was not a single word to designate this domestic animal. The circumlocution “girded of loins”, or also “the level of the quick kidneys” (Prov. 30:31), were the most used to designate it.

It was introduced into Palestine in the time of Solomon (1 Kings 10:22).
In Jb. 38:36 appears as the herald of dawn, and also in the New Testament there is talk of the hen that gathers her chicks under her wings, as a symbol of maternal love and care that God provides to her own (Mt. 23:37).
