HOLM OAK
Translation of the Hebrew “allon” and “elah” and other similar words that are also translated as a place name.
“Allon”, name given to the place where Deborah, Rebekah’s mistress, was buried (Gen. 35:8).
It also translates:
“cork oak” (1 Sam. 17:2, 19; Isa. 2:13; 6:13; Jos. 24:26).
“valley” (Gen. 12:6; Judges 4:11);
“plains” (Deut. 11:30);
“field” (Judg. 9:37);
“forests” (Is. 1:27).
The Palestine oak is leafy, lush and an emblem of strength and pride.
