HONOR
Consideration (recognition of value) of another person (Acts 28:10).
God’s honor is part of his glory.
Honoring God means: recognizing the power and glory of God (Josh. 7:19; 1 Chron. 16:28; Jn. 9:24; Acts 12:23); honor is due to God alone (Rom. 11:36); He demands to be honored (Mal. 1:6).
Man is owed honor for having received it from God as a gift (1 Kings 3:13; Ps. 8:6), as a prestige and dignity coming from being the image of God (Gen. 45:13).
Honor must be shown:
to parents (Ex. 20:12),
to the elders (Lev. 19:32),
to kings (1 Pet. 2:17),
to widows (1 Tim. 5:3),
to the lords (1 Tim. 6:1).
Christians are expected to show honor in their dealings with one another (Rom. 12:10); With this is combined the renunciation of selfishly seeking one’s own honor (Jn. 5:44; 12:43; Gal. 5:26; Phil. 2:3), which, however, does not exclude that each one be careful of his own honor (Acts 13:46; 16:37).
