HORONAIM
“double cave.” Moabite city, located at the bottom of a valley, apparently not far from Zoar (Is. 15:5; Jer. 48:3, 5, 34; Stele of Moab, n. 31). (See TABLE [STELE OF].)
This is undoubtedly the city of Oronae, which Alexander Jannaeus captured from the Arabs and which his son Hyrcanus surrendered to Aretas (Ant. 13:5, 4; 14:1, 4).
This place possibly corresponds to el-ArĂ£k, about 500 m away. below a plateau, and where there are fountains, orchards, and numerous caves.
