(a) Son of Segub and descendant of Judah, but called “son of Manasseh” by his mother, daughter of Machir. He conquered the territory of Argob with some cities, and gave it the name Havot-jair (Num. 32:41; Deut. 3:14; Josh. 13:30; 1 Kings 4:13; 1 Chron. 2: 22, 23).

(b) Gileadite who judged Israel for twenty-two years (Judges 10:3-5); He had thirty sons, and thirty cities in the land of Gilead.

(c) Father of Elhanan, who killed Lahmi, brother of Goliath (1 Chr. 20:5); It is called Jaare-oregim in 2 Samuel 21:19.

(d) A Benjamite, father of Mordecai (Est. 2:5).
