Meaning of JAVAN

Fourth son of Japheth and father of Elisa, Tarshish, Chittim and Dodanim. Javan, territorially, corresponds, strictly speaking, to Ionia, the Greek civilization in Asia Minor, but soon came to denote all Greek peoples.

In Ez. 27:13 There is no doubt that the Javan that traded with Tire is Greece; but it seems that v. 19 refers to a Javan in southern Arabia (Heb.: "Vedan and Javan of Uzal").

Why is this analogy important to us today? It is because we are the sheep and Jesus is the Shepherd.
