JUTE

JUTE

“inclined.”
City of the hill country of Judah, named together with Maon, Carmel and Ziph; there is no doubt that it was in the same area (Josh. 15:55). Jutah and its surroundings were assigned to the priests (Josh. 21:16).

This town is currently called Yattã (Yuttã) and is located on a shallow elevation, about 9 km southwest of Hebron.

Some have suggested that Juta could be the city in the mountainous country of Judah where Mary went to visit Elizabeth (Lk. 1:39). The most widespread assumption is that Hebron was Elizabeth’s city, although it is unknown where John the Baptist was born.
