LATIN
Language of the Romans, who exercised supreme authority in Palestine since the 1st century BC. Latin was not admitted by the Jews as a lingua franca, and they only admitted a few words of this language.
Praetorium and centurion appear in gr characters. in Mark 15:16, 39, 45. Latin being the language of the Roman authorities, the writing affixed to the cross of Christ was written in Latin as well as Greek and Hebrew.
