LETTERS

They are mentioned in Lk. 23:38. In Ga. 6:11 the apostle says, “See how large letters I have written to you with my own hand,” not by the hand of his amanuensis.

The Hebrews have certain acrostic poems that begin with the letters of the alphabet arranged in order.

The most considerable of these is Ps. 119, which contains twenty-two stanzas of eight verses each, all acrostic; that is, the first eight begin with “alef”; the next eight with “bet”, and so on.
