LIVER
(Heb. “kabëd”, “heavy”, refers to the condition of the viscera being the heaviest).
Vital organ, frequently mentioned in sacrificial norms (Ex. 29:13, 22; Lev. 3:4; 4:9; 10:15, etc.).
The liver was used by the pagans for divination, cf. Ez. 21:21).
Like other ancient people, the Jews placed the liver closer to the seat of life than we do, using this term where we would speak of “heart” (Pr. 7:23; Lam. 2:11: “My liver spilled to the ground.
