MAGISTRADO

MAGISTRADO

Translation of different Hebrew terms. and GR.
Moses, David, and Ezra established magistrates and judges in Israel to exercise civil and judicial authority (Deut. 16:18; 1 Chron. 23:4; Ezra 7:25).

Lucas, with his usual precision, specifies that the magistrates:
of Philippi were “archons” (Acts 16:19), those of Thessalonica “politarchs” (Acts 17:6, 8; this title, typically Macedonian, was indeed in use in this and some other city);

In Ephesus, the correct term for magistrates was “asiarchs” (Acts 19:31).
Jesus warns his disciples that they will be brought before the magistrates, and gives them a special promise (Luke 12:11, 12).

Let us note that we are not talking here about the usual preaching of the Gospel, for which serious meditation and preparation are indispensable (1 Tim. 4:13-16; Josh. 1:7-8).
