MANAEN

MANAEN

gr. form from “Menahem” (Heb.: “comforter”).

Prophet or Christian teacher of the church of Antioch. Raised with Herod the Tetrarch, he was his childhood friend, or foster brother (Acts 13:1); possibly a descendant or relative of Manahem, the Essene, who predicted to Herod the Great his accession to the throne. Herod paid much attention to Manahem and his sect because of the fulfillment of this prediction (Ant. 15:10, 5).
