MITILENE
City located between Asón and Chio (Acts 20:1315). Capital of the Greek island once called Lesbos, in the Aegean Sea. Birthplace of Alcaeus, the poet, and of Pitacos, the statesman, one of the seven wise men of Greece, and of the poetess Sappho. Today the entire island is called Mytilene.
