MOSQUITO
(gr. «Kõnõps, «small insect»; Mt. 23:24), very widespread in lagoonal places. The Egyptians protected themselves from their exasperating bites at night by sleeping under mosquito nets (Herodotus 2:95).
The term mosquito (which is not of great systematic rigor) evidently designates a particular species of Culex; This insect has a proboscis, tapered body, two transparent wings, and long legs.
It feeds on blood. Meticulously filtering the water you are going to drink to remove every small mosquito from it, and on the other hand swallowing a camel without much concern means attributing great importance to details of etiquette or the duties to be carried out while it violates a flagrantly the moral law.
