MULE

MULE

Herbivorous mammal, called “pered” in Heb. (1 Kings 18:5). It is a hybrid between a donkey and a mare or a horse and a donkey. Mules are frequently mentioned along with horses (Ps. 32:9).

It serves as a mount and beast of burden (2 Sam. 13:29; 2 Kings 5:17; 1 Chron. 12:40). The Bible does not mention the mule before the time of David, under whose reign it became very common. Raised in Armenia, they were taken to Tire (Ez. 27:14).
