MYRTLE

MYRTLE

Small tree called in Hebrew. «fairies»; It grew in the mountains surrounding Jerusalem. During the Feast of Tabernacles (see FESTIVALS) its branches were used to make booths (Neh. 8:15).

This is undoubtedly the common myrtle, “Myrtius communis,” found throughout Palestine (Is. 41:19; 55:13; Zech. 1:8-11).
