NAILS

NAILS

In the Old Testament the Hebrew word translated either “stake” or “nail” generally refers to stakes driven into the ground that served to secure tents, or stakes firmly embedded in the walls of a building (Judg. 4: 21; Ex. 27:19; Ez. 15:3).

It also implies fixity and firm support (Is. 22:23; Zech. 10:4). Another Hebrew word designates the golden nails of the Temple (2 Chron. 3:9; Jer. 10:4). The soldiers nailed Jesus’ hands and perhaps also his feet to the cross (cf. Ps. 22:16).
