"the dry one."
The region currently known by the same name of Negev or Negev.
There the flocks grazed, a few kilometers south of Hebron (cf. Gen. 18:1 and 20:1; Num. 13:22; Gen. 12:9).
This territory differs greatly from the rugged part of the country, from the plain, and from the Arabah (Josh. 10:40; 12:8). The northern part of the Negev was assigned to the tribes of Judah and Simeon (Josh. 15:21-32; 19:1-9).
There were the following important localities there:
Kadesh-barnea (Gen. 20:1);
The hairoi (Gen. 24:62);
Beersheba (Josh. 15:28);
Ziklag (Josh. 15:31);
Arad (Num. 21:1).
