NERGAL-SHAREZER
“May Nergal protect the king.”
One of the princes of Nebuchadnezzar’s court, chief of the magicians (Jer. 39:3, 13).
This is the Nergal-sar-usur known to the Greeks as Neriglisar. He married a daughter of Nebuchadnezzar, murdered his brother-in-law Evil-merodach, and usurped the throne (Against Apion, 1:20). He reigned between 560 and 556 BC.
